Changing Lives Through Horses (CLTH) is the British Horse Society's award-winning education programme, designed for young people who thrive outside of a traditional classroom. At Hurstwood Farm we deliver CLTH as an Alternative Education Provision — welcoming referrals from schools, local authorities and families across Sussex.
Sessions take place on the yard, in the arena and around the farm — with our team of qualified coaches, pastoral staff and gentle, well-schooled horses. Every learner is met where they are, with a tailored plan that grows alongside them.

Communication & Empathy
Horses respond honestly to body language and emotion. Learners develop emotional regulation, patience and the ability to read others.
Routine & Responsibility
Caring for a living animal teaches accountability, consistency and the value of showing up — life skills that translate far beyond the yard.
Recognised Qualifications
Learners can work towards BHS Changing Lives Through Horses awards, providing accredited evidence of progress for schools and futures.
Who it's for
Designed for young people who need something different.
Our provision suits learners aged 8–18 who would benefit from a structured, nurturing environment outside of school walls. We work closely with referrers to align goals, share progress and contribute to EHCPs where relevant.
